Tell us a little bit about your photography - where are you based and what type of photography do you currently enjoy?
I'm based in Nashville, TN! I LOVE helping other small business owners succeed! I capture photos of them that help them stand out, and also help them to better market their businesses with Web SEO and marketing coaching! Aside from this, I also love photographing couples and individuals in a cinematic way, offering photo experiences that make their lives feel like a movie! (www.yourcinematiclife.com) This part of my business also includes traveling - something my husband and I enjoy doing together!
In only a couple of words, how would you describe your style of photography?
Overall - classic. I've never been big on presets or special Photoshop effects.
Tell us about one of your most memorable photoshoots or perhaps a favourite photo you have taken?
Most recently - a photoshoot I did for an actress in New York City. It was a combination of both my small business shoots, and Your Cinematic Life, which was really cool! I followed her around Brooklyn one morning as the sun came up, and captured some really special moments of her.
As a photographer, nurturing your creativity while trying to balance self employment and life can be a little tricky sometimes. Where do you find the inspiration to continue creating and maintaining consistency?
Designating one day a week as my Sabbath makes a HUGE difference in my creativity, but also managing the stressors that can come with running a business and life in general. A lot of my best ideas came when I took time to slow down and just BE! A huge part of creativity is just being able to think!
Having grown as a photographer, is there any piece of advice that you could give to yourself when you first started down this path, or wish you had known sooner?
Don't be afraid of turning something you love into something that makes money - you will figure out the balance needed to experience the joy of it while also "working". Don't just focus on growing your photography talent - grow in your knowledge of taxes, marketing, writing, all of what is required to run a photography business!
Is there anything special you have been working on - mentoring workshops, courses ect. We'd love to let other photographers know!
I'm working on my Digital Marketing Guide that will teach you how to market and attract dream customers! You can sign up for my email list at www.alicemaephotography.com to be notified of when that is coming out! I'm also creating more destination photo experiences over at www.yourcinematiclife.com, along with non-touristy travel guides for some of my favourite cities!
What gear are you currently using and what would you typically carry in your Kamrette camera bag?
I shoot on a Fuji X-T3! My go-to is my 50mm lens, but I usually carry two others, and a flash. Lately I have also been brining along my Polaroid camera!
